Is Wrought Iron Patio Furniture Really Worth The Cost?

We live in a pretty harsh climate and we have a fairly limited amount of space. My husband and I love to entertain our friends, but finding durable patio furniture has been an issue Nearly every year, we have to buy new plastic patio furniture, and by the end of the season at least one chair has broken or chipped. Between early freezing temperatures, high winds, falling leaves and all the rest, cheap plastic patio furniture simply does not last. Even wooden patio furniture seems not to fair so well in our northern location.
At first, I was a little bit reluctant to buy wrought iron patio furniture. There is so much going against wrought iron patio sets. Wrought iron chairs are a bit uncomfortable to sit in. They have no give or flex to them at all and are designed that is more crafted for ornament than for comfort. Wrought iron patio tables, of course, seemed to make sense to me, but they were every expensive. I was also worried that wrought iron patio furniture would start to rust in the harsh outdoor weather. I did not want to make that kind of investment only to have everything looking bad after only year or two.

It turns out the wrought iron patio furniture has come a long way since I was a kid. Most is now rust treated and made of a type of iron that helps resist rusting. Although wrought iron patio furniture is not quite as comfortable and ergonomically designed as plastic furniture can be, the designs still have improved. When I tried wrought iron patio chairs out, I was surprised by how long you can comfortably sit in one without having any problems. You could easily sit outdoors for several hours in complete comfort. Also, if comfort is still a problem, you could always buy or create your own custom seat cushions for the wrought iron chairs and then just remove them for the winter months, since we rarely use our patio during the winter.
Picking out wrought iron patio furniture was a difficult decision for us. It was hard to select and purchase something that we knew would be nearly a permanent fixture in our home. After all, we were so used to having patio furniture that wore out quickly that we were unprepared for how difficult a decision it might be. We haven’t bought new furniture for the inside of our house in several years. I initially worried that buying a wrought iron patio set would be every bit as much of an ordeal, but there was no reason to worry. It turns out that we found the perfect set almost right away.
After waisting so much money on cheap plastic patio furniture, we have decided that wrought iron patio furniture was the only way to go.
